Job summary

YWCA Hamilton is seeking a CAP Coordinator to support homeless women through Carole Anne’s Place, an Out of the Cold program. You will apply a feminist, trauma-informed perspective to assess needs, provide crisis intervention, counseling, referrals and advocacy, and help women set goals and access services.

Role requires crisis management, strong communication, bilingual abilities, and commitment to empowering women.

Qualifications

• Must have post-secondary education in Social Work/Social Services or related field.
• Ability to bring a feminist, anti-racist/anti-oppressive perspective to work.
• Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
• Committed to advocating for and empowering women.
• Experience working with marginalized women.
• Proven experience in crisis management and de-escalation techniques.
• Knowledge of social housing and shelter system in Hamilton.
• Experience working in a diverse community or setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to work from a trauma informed practice.
• Ability to work a schedule which includes days, early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends based on program needs; able to cover weekend shifts in the event of no coverage.
• Must provide a current Vulnerable sector police check or willingness to obtain at own cost.
• Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost.

Responsibilities

• Provides support to homeless women accessing Carole Anne’s Place, an Out of the Cold program designed to provide a safe, warm, supportive space for women when the shelter beds and overflow beds in the city are full.
• Using an integrated feminist anti-racist/anti-oppressive and trauma informed perspective, CAP Coordinator will assess the needs of women and offer supports including crisis intervention, counseling, referrals, advocacy, goal planning and programming.
• Works with women to identify and support their personal goals and objectives.
• Liaises with Emergency Services, Housing Providers, Housing First Programs, hospitals.
• Conducts initial assessments for the woman accessing services.
• Provides crisis intervention and counseling support.
• Provides range of social work supports including goal setting, safety plans for violence, addictions and/or mental health, crisis intervention, counselling support and advocacy.
• Offers referrals and assists clients in navigating services and housing in the community.
• Advocates on behalf of women.
• Provides daily programming.
• Data collection of outputs, outcomes and attendance and record keeping.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive client information.
• Prepares program and cleans areas used for the program.
• Cleans biohazardous fluids as required.
• Performs housekeeping duties including laundry.
• Follows OHSA and WSIB, Health and Safety policies.
• Attends staff meetings; participates in team activities.
• Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures.
