Job summary

Optum is seeking a Behavioral Health Intake Counselor (BIC) for the County of San Diego's 24/7 Access and Crisis Line. This remote role requires a 4-day week schedule (Sun-Wed, 8am-6:30pm PST) with mandatory training.

You will triage, assess risks, provide referrals, document in EHR, and support crisis line staff across the U.S. Qualifications include a master's/doctorate in human services, bilingual Spanish/English, and multiple years of direct clinical/crisis experience.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree or Doctorate in Psychology, Sociology or equivalent within human services.
• If licensed, must have a cleared status and not be on probation.
• 2+ years of post-graduate experience providing direct clinical services.
• 1+ years in crisis response using de-escalation and motivational interviewing.
• 1+ years working with diverse multi-ethnic populations.
• Ability to enter accurate clinical information into Medi-Cal EHR.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to HIPAA, ethics, and confidentiality; follow reporting requirements.
• Answer calls/chats within standard service levels.
• Triage calls based on mental health or substance use symptoms.
• Conduct screenings including suicide and homicide assessments as indicated.
• Provide clinical referrals and crisis intervention; ensure safety.
• Document interactions in a DHCS-compliant, succinct manner.
• Enter clinical information into Medi-Cal beneficiary EHR accurately.
• Meet individual performance goals; solve technical issues and escalate as needed.
• Assist in training crisis line staff on protocols and quality benchmarks.
• Other duties as assigned.
