Summary:

Casper College is a community college that places an emphasis on teaching. This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is a face-to-face, on-campus Criminal Justice Instructor. This position primarily instructs introductory criminal justice and forensic science courses which typically include, but are not limited to:

• CRMJ 1001 - Intro to Criminal Justice
• CRMJ 1705 - Advanced Firearms
• CRMJ 2005 - Introduction to Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems
• CRMJ 2130 - Criminal Investigation I
• CRMJ 2210 - Criminal Law I
• CRMJ 2230 - Law of Evidence
• CRMJ 2250 - Police Administration
• CRMJ 2280 - Criminal Procedure
• CRMJ 2350 - Introduction to Corrections
• CRMJ 2430 - The Community and the Police

This position will be required to engage in departmental duties, maintain office hours, attend faculty meetings, and serve on college committees as assigned. Staying current with Criminal Justice and Forensic Science scholarship and industry trends is vital for this faculty member.

This is a full-time, benefited 9-month faculty position. Position intended to start at the beginning of the Spring 2027 semester.

Responsibilities:

As a faculty member at Casper College, this position is responsible for instructing scheduled courses using diverse teaching methods in both face-to-face and digital formats. This role involves preparing syllabi and assessment materials to evaluate and report student progress in a timely manner. Additionally, the instructor must maintain accurate records and establish regular office hours for student consultation.

Our faculty members perform other related duties as assigned, which include but are not necessarily limited to advising students on academic curricula; serving on committees; participating in faculty meetings; providing recommendations for preparation of departmental or school budgets; participating in the development of school curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.

The faculty member is expected to remain current in their field by reading current literature, communicating with colleagues, and participating in professional development conferences.

• Teach a variety of Criminal Justice courses in multiple formats including conventional face-to-face courses and digital learning formats in criminal justice.
• Participate in on-going curriculum development and learning assessment.
• Engage in various department, school, and college administrative duties (e.g., student advising, assessment, curriculum development, student recruitment, student orientations, keeping accurate records, learning communities, service-learning, international education, and honors program).
• Maintain required office hours, attend faculty and school meetings, participate in faculty development, and serve on college committees as assigned.
• Keep accurate records.
• Evaluate student performance.
• Contribute to course, program-specific, and college-wide outcomes assessment with the Assessment office.
• Advise students.
• Participate in faculty development and student recruitment.
• Perform other duties as requested or required by the administration/dean/department.

Minimum Qualifications:

• In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must meet at least one of the following equivalent education and experience requirements:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Administration of Justice, or related discipline;
  • Master's Degree in any discipline AND at least 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, or related discipline from an accredited institution;
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Administration of Justice, or related discipline AND a minimum of 5 years of full-time relevant professional experience in law enforcement, corrections, the courts, or a related criminal justice field.
• Experience and commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience teaching at the college level
• Prior law enforcement experience
• Experience with building and developing new teaching modalities for distance education and internet coursework
• A functional understanding of artificial intelligence and large language models, how it is being utilized in the higher education environment, and experience building strategies to adapt to the evolving medium

Work Environment:

The typical work environment is a classroom and office setting requiring normal safety precautions. Work on campus is usually performed during the normal workday, however, occasional early morning, late evening and weekend work may be required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required.
