Colorado State Public Defender in Colorado Springs is seeking a Paralegal to join our regional trial offices. This role supports defense attorneys by organizing discovery, preparing case files, and coordinating transcripts and exhibits.

Ideal candidates will hold a paralegal certificate or a related degree, have strong research and writing skills, and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual Spanish is a plus; we value diversity and inclusive practices.

Qualifications

• Paralegal certificate or degree required or equivalent experience.
• Experience in legal research and drafting is preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus; commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsabilités

• Manages and organizes discovery; builds trial notebooks and indexes for attorneys and defense team.
• Reviews and summarizes discovery, videos, and witness interviews; orders transcripts.
• Drafts routine motions, briefs and legal memoranda; files pleadings and motions; redacts documents.
• Tracks and monitors case status and critical timelines; keeps attorneys and clients apprised.
• Provides support for hearings or trials including jury selection, exhibit tracking, client communication, and audiovisual setup.
• Performs administrative tasks to support the defense team and ensure compliance with policy and procedure.
