City of Temple, TX is seeking a crime scene evidence technician to respond to crime scenes and serious incident locations, supporting protection of life, property and preservation of evidence. The role requires flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, and being reachable by phone 24/7.

The position involves gathering and analyzing evidence, fingerprint processing, documentation for court, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, chemistry, or related field.
  • Pass extensive criminal background check, polygraph, and evaluation.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • IAI Certification (preferred).
  • AFIS certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Gathers, transports, analyzes, interprets, and stores evidence from crime scenes, death investigations and traffic fatalities according to Department Property and Evidence policies.
  • Collects, processes, and evaluates latent fingerprints, conducts visual and physical analysis and comparison of crime scene latent prints to local, state, and national fingerprint databases and in accordance with Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Provides technical support and training regarding the management, handling and storing of property and evidence for all divisions within the Police Department.
  • Reads and interprets criminal codes, case law, department policies and procedures and/or other materials to increase knowledge and ensure proper legal action.
  • Prepares necessary documentation and evidence for court, attends pre-trial hearings, and testifies in Municipal, County, District and Federal courts.
  • Attends courses, seminars, and in-services to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Inventories, orders, and maintains evidence processing and collection supplies and equipment.
  • Responds to general questions from the public and establishes a professional rapport with the community.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, court systems, schools, citizens, and civic groups.
  • Operates and maintains city-owned vehicles in accordance with Texas Traffic Laws, City and Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Follows departmental and city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
