Job summary

City of Greensboro is seeking a Crew Supervisor – Turf Maintenance to lead a field-maintenance team of 8–10 staff, oversee daily turf care, irrigation upkeep, and field preparation for athletic events. This hands-on leadership role combines field work with coaching, scheduling, and safety oversight.

You will ensure high-quality athletic surfaces for Greensboro's residents and programs, while fostering teamwork and safe, efficient operations in outdoor environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum HS diploma or GED.
• 1 year supervisory experience required.
• 1-3 years in athletic field maintenance with increasing responsibility.
• Valid Driver's License required; Class A CDL must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
• NC Pesticide License must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead a team of approximately 8-10 Turf Maintenance staff.
• Develop daily and weekend work schedules.
• Assign and monitor work activities to ensure priorities are met.
• Mow, line, drag, paint, and maintain athletic fields.
• Assist with irrigation repairs and maintenance.
• Apply fertilizers and pesticides following safety rules.
• Perform routine maintenance of turf maintenance equipment.
• Operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations.
• Coach and motivate employees with constructive feedback.
• Monitor time and attendance using Kronos.
• Promote safe work practices and respond to maintenance needs in the field.
• Provide professional customer service to residents and athletic organizations.

About the Role

As a Crew Supervisor, you'll oversee the daily operations of a Turf Maintenance crew while actively participating in the work. You'll coordinate schedules, monitor performance, maintain safety standards, and help ensure Greensboro's athletic fields remain among the best in the region.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supervise and lead a team of approximately 8-10 Turf Maintenance staff.

• Promote safe work practices and ensure staff follow established procedures.
