Job summary

Lewis Tree Service is seeking a Crew Leader to supervise public utility vegetation management crews in outdoor settings. You will train and lead teams to perform tree trimming, removal, and clearance near energized lines, while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires 3+ years in a tree crew, strong leadership and communication skills, and a CDL/medical certification if needed. ESOP benefits, competitive pay, and paid training are offered.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in a tree crew or utility vegetation management.
• Strong knowledge of ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements and A300 Pruning Standards.
• Proficiency in identifying poisonous plants.
• Proficiency with electrical circuit basics and interpreting circuit maps.
• Advanced tree ascent/descent using ropes and safety saddle; aerial lift operations.
• Crew Leader Certification or ability to obtain it.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL and medical certification if required.
• Maintain training and licenses for safe use of herbicides.
• CPR and First Aid certification (provided by Lewis).
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily tree crew operations and ensure safe, efficient work practices.
• Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
• Monitor crew performance and conduct training, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Maintain contact information and report availability or fitness-for-duty concerns.
• Conduct field training and job briefings for crew readiness.
• Enforce safety standards and company policies; report hazards or incidents.
• Identify hazards and implement safeguards.
• Decide on work pace due to weather or safety concerns.
• Perform and direct tree trimming, removal, and clearance near energized lines.
• Operate and oversee equipment like trucks, chippers, aerial lifts, and saws.
• Interpret work orders and diagrams related to line voltage and equipment.
• Maintain clean, organized vehicles and job sites.
• Communicate with property owners for access and permissions.
• Foster positive relationships with customers and stakeholders.
• Cooperate with emergency services when blocking streets or driveways.
• Maintain records on crew performance, incidents, and equipment issues.
• Investigate incident reports and damage claims.
• Control crew costs through efficient use of resources.
