Job summary

Lewis Tree Service is seeking a Crew Leader to supervise daily crew operations, ensuring safe and efficient tree work for utility vegetation management clients. You will plan tasks, coach crew members, and maintain safety and quality standards in various field conditions.

Requirements include 3+ years in tree crews, ANSI Z133/A300 knowledge, climbing and aerial lift skills, and a valid CDL where needed. We offer ESOP, paid training, and comprehensive benefits, with opportunities for advancement.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in a tree crew or utility vegetation management.
• Solid knowledge of ANSI Z133 safety requirements and A300 pruning standards.
• Proficient in identifying poisonous plants.
• Familiar with electrical circuit basics and interpreting circuit maps.
• Advanced tree ascent/descent using ropes and safety saddle; skilled in aerial lift operations.
• Crew Leader certification or ability to obtain it.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL if required; medical certification as needed.
• CPR and First Aid certification provided by Lewis.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
• Knowledge of applicable state, local, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily tree crew operations and ensure safe, efficient work practices, including training, onboarding, coaching, discipline, and ensuring high-quality performance.
• Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
• Monitor crew performance and manage training, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
• Maintain up-to-date crew contact information and report availability or fitness-for-duty concerns.
• Conduct field training and job briefings to ensure crew readiness.
• Enforce safety standards and company policies; report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Identify jobsite hazards and implement safeguards like barriers and signs.
• Make decisions on work pace due to weather or safety concerns.
• Perform and direct tree trimming, removal near energized lines using climbing or aerial lifts.
• Operate and oversee use of equipment (trucks, chippers, lifts, saws).
• Interpret work orders, utility drawings, and line-voltage symbols.
• Keep vehicles and job sites clean and organized.
• Communicate with property owners; obtain access and written permissions.
• Foster positive relationships with customers, the public, and utility reps.
• Cooperate with emergency services when blocking streets or driveways.
• Maintain records on crew performance, incidents, and equipment issues.
• Investigate incident reports and damage claims as assigned.
• Monitor crew costs through efficient use of resources and equipment.
• Stay informed on policies, union agreements, and equipment standards.
