Job summary

Lewis Services is seeking a Crew Leader to oversee utility vegetation management crews, ensuring safe, efficient tree trimming and line clearance for customers. You will supervise daily operations, train new hires, enforce safety standards, and maintain records while coordinating with property owners and emergency services as needed.

Travel is frequent; you will lead field activities, manage equipment, and ensure compliance with ANSI Z133 and A300 standards, while upholding Lewis ESOP benefits

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in a tree crew or utility vegetation management.
• Solid knowledge of ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements and A300 Pruning Standards.
• Ability to identify poisonous plants.
• Proficiency with electrical circuit basics and interpreting circuit maps.
• Advanced tree ascent/descent using ropes and safety saddle; skilled in aerial lift operations.
• Crew Leader knowledge/certification or ability to obtain.
• Valid driver's license; CDL if needed; medical certification.
• RCP and First Aid certified (provided by Lewis).
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Compliance with state/local/federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily tree crew operations; ensure safe, efficient work; provide training, onboarding, coaching, discipline.
• Plan and assign tasks based on crew skills and job requirements.
• Monitor crew performance, including new hires, for training and promotions.
• Maintain contact information and report availability or fitness-for-duty concerns.
• Conduct field training, retraining, and job briefings for crew readiness.
• Enforce safety standards and report unsafe conditions or incidents.
• Identify hazards and implement safeguards near energized lines.
• Make decisions on work slowdown due to weather or safety concerns.
• Perform and direct tree trimming, removal, and clearance near lines using climbing or lifts.
• Operate equipment including trucks, chippers, lifts, and power saws.
• Interpret work orders and diagrams related to line voltage and equipment.
• Maintain clean, organized vehicles and job sites.
• Communicate with property owners for access and permissions.
• Promote positive relationships with customers, public, and contractors.
• Assist emergency services when blocking streets or driveways.
• Maintain records on crew performance, incidents, equipment issues, and completed work.
• Investigate incident reports and damage claims as assigned.
• Monitor and control crew costs through efficient resource use.
• Stay informed on company policies, union agreements, and equipment standards.
