Position Summary :

Ledger Trade & Capital is looking for a seasoned Credit Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you’ll take the lead in evaluating new lending opportunities and conducting in-depth credit assessments of potential borrowers. You’ll be at the forefront of our daily credit review process, helping us make smart, informed lending decisions while also playing a key role in refining and improving how we assess risk. You’ll be accountable to maintain strong credit quality across the board, balancing thoughtful risk management with a clear understanding of investor guidelines, procedures and expectations.

Key Responsibilities :

• Assess in defining internal policy standards and procedures around underwriting of acquisition, vertical construction, and DSCR lending products.
• Evaluate borrower risk by assessing business strategy, track record, and the viability of real estate projects.
• Conduct thorough credit analyses to identify counterparty risk and creditworthiness of institutional borrowers.
• Collaborate with Loan Originators and Processors to gather all necessary diligence items, offering guidance on exceptions and required documentation.
• Review legal and financial documentation such as term sheets, loan applications, appraisals, background checks to policy standards
• Improve internal systems including our Loan Origination System to strength the diligence process for our partners
• Design and implement credit risk management internal controls to meet compliance and corporate diligence standards.
• Create loan packages for Investment Committee approval
• Collaborate with the leadership team to drive the overall strategic direction of the company. Provide financial insights to support decision-making and long-term growth initiatives.

Qualifications :

• A bachelor’s degree is required; MBA or CFA designation a plus
• 5-8 years of experience in real estate banking or private real estate lending, with a focus on underwriting, credit analysis, or a related function.
• Strong knowledge of industry-standard credit underwriting policies, processes, collateral valuation methods, and supporting documentation.
• Deep understanding of private real estate lending and loan structuring practices.
• Proven ability to apply underwriting expertise and sound judgment to interpret both micro and macro-level data.
• Skilled at synthesizing information from multiple sources to identify key risks, conduct clear analysis, and present actionable recommendations.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment with a hands-on approach and the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and business needs.
