Summary

A Credentialed Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech) is a highly skilled professional working alongside veterinarians to ensure the health and well-being of animals. Vet Techs are essential to our clinics, performing responsibilities that extend beyond basic care, including:

  • Assisting in medical procedures, surgeries, anesthesia monitoring, and diagnostic imaging.
  • Conducting laboratory tests such as blood work and urinalysis.
  • Providing post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and ensuring animal comfort.
  • Engaging with pet owners to provide information on post-treatment care, medication, and preventive health.
Expanded Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in surgical procedures, prepare the operating room, handle instruments, and support veterinarians during surgeries.
  • Monitor anesthesia during procedures to ensure animal safety.
  • Collect blood samples, analyze hematological results, and assist in diagnostics.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic imaging like X-rays.
  • Oversee recovery, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide comfort post-surgery.
  • Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, medications, wound care, and signs of complications.
  • Advise on preventive health, nutrition, and routine care to help pet owners maintain animal well-being.

Requirements
Education and Training
  • Associate degree in veterinary technology from an accredited program.
  • Pass or have passed a national licensing exam.

Certification and Licensure
  • Meet state licensing requirements via certification, such as VTNE.
  • Hold a title like “Registered (RVT)”, “Licensed (LVT)”, or “Certified (CVT)” depending on the state.
  • Complete continuing education to maintain licensure.
