Job summary

Pitkin County Library is seeking a creative Library Assistant to join our communications and programming team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, graphic design abilities, and enthusiasm for connecting people with Library programs, services, and resources. Training provided; no prior library experience required.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The role schedules Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Qualifications

• Up to 1 year of library experience and one year of customer service.
• High School Diploma or GED; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Complete new-hire training within 6 months to 1 year of hire.
• Complete Pitkin County Library Academy courses.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical and administrative duties using County Library policies and procedures and experience with technology systems.
• Provides customer service to Library patrons; responds to inquiries and requests for information; explains Library programs, procedures, and services; resolves customer service issues; interprets and explains library policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to staff and patrons.
• Processes printed and digital media requests; researches databases to determine availability; administers circulation and records; assists with data reports.
• Trains clients in use of computerized resources, including internet and library catalog.
• Repairs library materials; prepares materials for shelving; identifies items requiring repair/maintenance.
• Promotes Library programs and services to local community agencies and citizen groups.
• Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the public; maintains confidentiality; performs other duties as required.
