Marketing Assistant
The Marketing Assistant performs a variety of tasks in support of the Library’s Strategic Agenda. The role requires active monitoring and understanding of current Library services, and involves working collaboratively with Library Administration, front-line staff, vendors, community agencies, and the general public. The position requires a flexible and collaborative working style, strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with design fundamentals, and the ability to exercise good judgment and discretion when presenting the library to the public.

Essential Position Functions
- Assists with positively presenting the Library to both external and internal customers.
- Makes referrals to appropriate staff in response to both internal and external queries.
- Assists the Marketing & Communications Manager with monitoring consistent branding at all locations, including following house style guides.
- Creates accurate, meaningful, and readable copy for promotional materials, including e-mail blasts, event descriptions, and print pieces.
- Assists with routine e‑mail campaigns, including performance tracking and development of segmented lists.
- Assists in the creation of additional content for advertising materials and signage, including graphics, photographs, and video content.
- Assists the Marketing & Communications Manager with monitoring and updating the library’s social media presence and website; uses the staff wiki as needed for internal information dissemination.
- Assists the Marketing & Communications Manager in monitoring community developments and marketing and library trends.
- Assists in conducting and evaluating user experience studies.
- Assists in generating and analyzing library statistical reports to improve library services.
- Performs proofreading and copyediting.
- Assists with project coordination, including tracking promotional supplies and communicating with staff regarding signage, materials, and logistics.
- Provides support outside of regularly scheduled hours as needed, including capturing media at events and attending community outreach activities.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
- Basic understanding of marketing principles and the content creation cycle, including audience targeting and goal-oriented messaging.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher).
- Familiarity with e‑mail marketing, website maintenance, and social media management preferred.
- Experience with Adobe software (especially Photoshop and Acrobat Pro) preferred.
- Experience with or willingness to learn tools such as WordPress, Patron Point, and Canva.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work evening and weekend shifts as scheduled.
- Occasional availability for extended or off‑hours support (e.g., special events or deadlines).

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; lift files, open filing cabinets; lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
- Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
Work Environment
- Internal office space for the majority of the schedule; uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Indoor spaces at venues such as conference centers, school assembly spaces, and other outreach locations; outdoor spaces such as parks, parking lots, and other outreach locations, as assigned.
- Work activity generally involves the use of portable equipment, such as a laptop, tablet, or camera.
