Job summary

Kroger Co. is seeking a Bakery Department team member to create an outstanding customer experience by answering questions, offering samples, and preparing bakery items.

You will ensure product quality, decorate various bakery goods, label and stock merchandise, and follow health, safety, and loss-prevention guidelines. The role requires strong communication, basic math, and the ability to handle stressful situations while delivering great service.

Qualifications

• Retail experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment welcoming customers and answering questions about products in the department and throughout the store.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to questions, making suggestions.
• Offer samples to help customers discover items; prepare bakery items per customer requests using bakery equipment.
• Recommend bakery items to ensure customers get what they want and need.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell by dates and take appropriate action; use bakery equipment per guidelines.
• Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies and other bakery items.
• Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand the store layout and locate products as requested; stay current with ads.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and note discrepancies.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and store policies on merchandising, labor, safety and loss prevention.
• Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions to management.
• Inspect equipment and notify maintenance of needed repairs.
• Report safety risks and any illegal activity; notify management of incidents.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
