Job summary

Fifth Third Bank in the United States is seeking a Portfolio Manager II to oversee a commercial loan portfolio, perform underwriting, and monitor borrower risk. The role partners with Relationship Managers and Credit Risk to structure covenants, evaluate collateral, and provide sound credit recommendations.

The position requires 6+ years of CRE underwriting experience, strong financial analysis, and the ability to manage multiple deals while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Finance, Business, or related field.
• 7+ years of CRE underwriting experience across asset classes including income-producing, construction, and REITs.
• Strong credit analysis, including cash flow, guarantor, collateral, and repayment source evaluation.
• Experience structuring and presenting credit recommendations per policy and risk standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication with professional presence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an independent, forward-looking view on client creditworthiness and communicate it to partners.
• Perform monitoring actions, deal reviews, and decisions to renew or modify deals.
• Collaborate with Credit Risk and Relationship Managers to manage bank exposure.
• Analyze historical financials and projections to support risk ratings and identify trends.
• Underwrite, approve, and document transactions including renewals, extensions, waivers, and ancillary products.
• Review and recommend credit decisions while interpreting lending policies.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Mentor junior team members and provide performance feedback.
• Meet with prospects/clients as needed.
• Create portfolio performance reports and presentations for senior management.
