Job summary

G&W Electric in Romeoville, IL is seeking a Crater I to prepare and assemble wooden containers, crates, boxes and skids for shipments, and to select packing materials and bracing to prevent movement. You will read drawings and Bills of Material and ensure proper components are included in each order.

This role requires a high school diploma or GED, 0–1 year of manufacturing experience or basic carpentry skills, and the ability to use hand and power tools.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or combination of work experience and skill development.
• 0–1 year experience in a manufacturing environment or basic carpentry skills.
• Able to safely use small hand and power tools.
• Able to read instructions and understand verbal instructions in English.
• Ideally able to read drawings and Bills of Material.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble wooden containers, crates, and skids for shipments.
• Select materials for packing and protection and brace to prevent shifting.
• Inspect orders against bills of material and report shortages.
• Record shipment data and mark crates with order numbers.
• Maintain safe, clean work environment and train others as needed.

Crater I

In this job you will be responsible for preparing and assembling wooden containers and packing large and heavy products and fragile apparatus for shipment As a Crater you will Construct non standard boxes crates or skids for domestic or foreign shipmentsSelect materials for packing or protection of product and the method of bracing or blocking to prevent shifting while in transitCheck orders against bills of material to ensure that all components are included report shortages or errorsAssemble orders count weigh move or direct movement to the designated floor location using hand trucks pallet jacks or hoistsRecord date and quantity method of shipment and verifies by signing initialsMark order number on crates or packages with sales order numberMaintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures rules and regulationsConserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job resultsContribute to team effort by training others in performance of basic crating tasks as neededInspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operationDocument actions by completing production and quality forms
