Position Overview

The general role of the Crane Operator I – Crane Services is to mobilize and operate cranes safely and efficiently throughout a wide range of industries to include, but not limited to: Industrial Construction, Oil and Gas, Coal, Aggregate, Commercial, Concrete, Power Plants, Communications, etc. This position must possess expertise and skill in precisely moving and placing large objects using Link Belt, National and Grove Cranes. The Crane Operator I must be a performance-driven individual with a proven history of customer service.

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of Industrial Construction and Oil & Gas operations. The individual must also be proficient with the products and services offered by Beitzel Corporation and willing to work a flexible schedule with extended hours as required.

The Crane Operator I will report to the Operations Manager – Crane Services and will work primarily out of the Beitzel Corporate location.

What You'll Do
  • Perform the day-to-day activities required by the customer and Operations Management and ensure that all required inspections, rig-up/rig-down, and emergency situations are resolved in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Control the rigging, lifting, moving, and positioning of loads on the crane.
  • Observe and make certain that loads are safely attached and that weight loads and lifting capacities are within proper limits.
  • Perform routine safety inspections and continuously inspect crane cables and hooks and ensure that worn parts are replaced.
  • Perform lubrication and necessary field repairs.
  • Operate cranes with regard to job requirements.
  • Serve as an on-site point of contact for Beitzel Corporation during the assigned job.
  • Identify issues and concerns from the field and ensure that a positive relationship exists between the Beitzel field staff, the customer, and Division Management.
  • Respond and provide corrective action for non-routine issues and repairs or issues that cannot be resolved in the field or that would jeopardize operations.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance, repairs, and additional work required by customers and Operations Management.
  • Assist and coordinate with other field personnel as needed.
  • Provide daily operations and job status updates to Operations Management.
  • Complete, with guidance, time and material (T&M) tickets, receipts, and other job-related paperwork as required.
  • Work on-call as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist cross-functional teams to accomplish common goals as required.

Working Conditions
  • Sit (for prolonged periods of time), talk, hear, read, and write.
  • Walk/use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls/reach with hands and arms/climb ladders and stairs/crawl/kneel/lie down.
  • Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds unassisted.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Work extended hours and potential shift work.
  • Perform duties on-site in all types of weather.
  • Breathe effectively while wearing a respirator.
  • Wear safety equipment: per OSHA/MSHA requirements including but not limited to steel toed and/or metatarsal shoes, hard hat, lanyard, fire retardant, protective eyewear, etc.
What You'll Bring
  • A minimum of (0-5) years of Crane Services experience or equivalent/relevant education and experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with at least one Crane associated application (i.e., wireline, general construction, snubbing, etc.) preferred.
  • Entry level to some experience in operation of some sizes of cranes.
  • Class B CDL is required, Class A CDL is preferred.
  • NCCCO certification or equivalent operator certification with an updated physical card.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Crane Services is preferred.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Practical knowledge of office procedures and customer relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in dealing with the public in a manner which will facilitate any constructive problem solving possible.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations and ability to meet deadlines.
