Job summary

Penn Terminals, Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to support our cranes and material handling equipment on-site at the terminal.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, and help minimize downtime to keep operations running smoothly. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of electrical and mechanical experience, safety-focused habits, and the ability to work from heights.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years electrical and mechanical experience required.
  • Ability to follow safety standards, rules and procedures.
  • Ability to acquire complex mechanical/computer troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to record information properly.
  • Ability to build good working relations with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs when not assisted by equipment.
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime as required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect tools and equipment to diagnose malfunctions or determine functional condition.
  • Work safely to minimize hazards to yourself and others.
  • Work from heights as needed.
  • Maintain equipment per maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Repair electrical and simple electronic malfunctions and coordinate with sub contractors for larger tasks.
  • Perform emergency repairs to return equipment to operation.
  • Operate tools and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Understand crane functions and communicate effectively with team and crane operators.

We are known industry wide for our reliability and efficiency in handling container, perishable, project, super sack, steel, pipes, forest products and other break-bulk cargoes. The primary role of the individual is to provide service to our STS and RTG cranes. Our goal is to find an individual to reinforce the shop when it comes to keeping all equipment in service. This is done by performing periodical maintenance at scheduled intervals, observing and reporting issues, and minimizing downtime during any breakdowns.

  • Inspect tools and equipment to diagnose malfunction or to determine functional condition.

  • Maintain equipment in accordance with maintenance schedules in attempt to minimize downtime while assisting in potential diagnosis due to prior component observation.
  • Repair electrical and simple electronic malfunctions as well as any larger task involving entire shop or subcontractors.
  • Perform emergency repairs to return the equipment to operation.
  • Operate tools and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Understand crane functions and ability to communicate with team and operators.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years electrical and mechanical experience.
  • Ability to follow all applicable safety standards, rules, laws, and procedures.
  • Ability to acquire increasingly complex mechanical/computer skills for troubleshooting.
  • Ability to record information in the proper manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to acquire a TWIC card.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+lbs when lift assistance is unavailable (i.e. forklifts and overhead lifts).
  • . Ability to work weekends and overtime as required.
