Job summary

Central Plains Steel is seeking a Maintenance Technician for 1st shift, Monday–Friday, 6:30am–3:00pm at Plant 1 in Wichita, KS. Travel between plants may be required.

You will support production equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and work with operations staff to meet safety, quality, and productivity goals. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in maintenance, strong mechanical/electrical knowledge, and the ability to lift heavy loads, read manuals, and operate tools.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associates or cert preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant maintenance experience or equivalent combination.
  • Must be able to meet physical demands including lifting up to 100 lb and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to read and follow manuals, drawings, and work orders.
  • Strong problem-solving, manual dexterity, and use of hand/power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair production equipment and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Inspect equipment for defects or malfunctions and document findings.
  • Support installation of new equipment and participate in training.
  • Follow safety regulations and maintain clean work areas.
  • Operate and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

with occasional on-call & off-shift hours

The Maintenance Technician provides direct maintenance support for production equipment during unscheduled downtimes and scheduled preventative maintenance. The Maintenance Technician works closely with the operations team, technical personnel, and the area supervisors to meet or exceed goals for Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

Job Function
  • Follows all safety regulations and basic rules and regulations per company policy
  • Maintain and repair production equipment, administer preventative maintenance programs and procedures
  • Inspect equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
  • Support the installation of new equipment and participate in equipment training
  • Is Competent using maintenance technician skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Conducts general building maintenance and coordinates activities with building contractors
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas
  • Able to perform essential job functions outside of normal working hours as needed
Required Skills
  • Valid Driver’s License - required.
  • Must be able to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
  • 2 years minimum of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
  • Associates degree or Certification within Industrial Manufacturing, Maintenance or Electronics is preferred
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems such as pneumatics, hydraulics, plant equipment, air compressors, HVAC, etc.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems such as PLCs, drives, servos, motors, plant electrical, control panels
  • Basic fabrication skills. · Knowledge of electrical circuits and operating principles of motors. Troubleshoot electrical equipment up to 480V.
  • Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination - required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations - required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly - required.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions - required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively - required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment - required.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds repetitively - required.
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time - required.
  • Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force - required.
  • Ability to go up and down off truck trailers repeatedly - required.
  • Employees are subject to temperatures more than 100 degrees F and below 32 degrees F
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers and/or vendors - required.
  • Must be able to obtain a certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment - required.
  • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications - required.
  • Warehousing and material handling experience – preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED - preferred.
