Job summary

Central Plains Steel is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support production equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and diagnose issues to maximize safety, quality, and productivity. You will collaborate with operations and technical staff to meet uptime goals and maintain reliable plant performance.

Qualifications include 2+ years in maintenance, an Associate degree or certificate preferred, and ability to lift up to 100 pounds. Willingness to travel between plants is required.

Qualifications

  • Require High School diploma or GED; 2+ years relevant experience.
  • Associates degree or certification preferred.
  • Must meet Level 4 Heavy Work capacity.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and follow mechanical/electrical diagrams.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair production equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance programs.
  • Inspect equipment for defects/malfunctions.
  • Assist with new equipment installation and training.
  • Read work orders and service manuals to perform duties.
  • Use tools and meters to diagnose issues and ensure safety.

Job Summary

Full Time: Monday-Friday, 1st Shift, 6:30am - 3:00pm with occasional on-call & off-shift hours. Location: Plant 1 - 3900 N. Comotara, Wichita, KS 67226. Must be willing to travel between plants.

The Maintenance Technician provides direct maintenance support for production equipment during unscheduled downtimes and scheduled preventative maintenance. The Maintenance Technician works closely with the operations team, technical personnel, and the area supervisors to meet or exceed goals for Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

Job Function
  • Follows all safety regulations and basic rules and regulations per company policy
  • Maintain and repair production equipment, administer preventative maintenance programs and procedures
  • Inspect equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
  • Support the installation of new equipment and participate in equipment training
  • Is Competent using maintenance technician skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
  • Conducts general building maintenance and coordinates activities with building contractors
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas
  • Able to perform essential job functions outside of normal working hours as needed
Required Skills
  • Valid Driver's License - required.
  • Must be able to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
  • 2 years minimum of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
  • Associates degree or Certification within Industrial Manufacturing, Maintenance or Electronics is preferred
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems such as pneumatics, hydraulics, plant equipment, air compressors, HVAC, etc.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems such as PLCs, drives, servos, motors, plant electrical, control panels
  • Basic fabrication skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and operating principles of motors. Troubleshoot electrical equipment up to 480V.
  • Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination - required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations - required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly - required.
  • Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions - required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively - required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment - required.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally, 60 pounds repetitively - required.
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time - required.
  • Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force - required.
  • Ability to go up and down off truck trailers repeatedly - required.
  • Employees are subject to temperatures more than 100 degrees F and below 32 degrees F
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, internal customers and/or vendors - required.
  • Must be able to obtain a certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment - required.
  • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications - required.
  • Warehousing and material handling experience - preferred.
  • High School diploma/GED - preferred.
