Job summary

Central Plains Steel in Wichita, KS is hiring for 1st shift Shipping & Receiving. Mon-Fri, 6:30am–3:00pm at Plant 1, 3900 N. Comotara.

You will load/unload trucks, coordinate with drivers and vendors, and maintain a safe, organized warehouse. Requires valid driver’s license, ability to lift 100 lbs, stand long periods, and safety consciousness.

The 1st Shift Shipping & Receiving professionals are responsible for loading and unloading trucks for our delivery drivers and vendors, ensuring quality, and maintaining organization of the warehouse. This team works closely with the delivery and purchasing departments to meet or exceed goals for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery.

Function in the Job

Job Function

• Generally responsible for completing basic, routine tasks with detailed instructions and/or core knowledge of shop flow.
• Pulls and assembles orders based on reviewing work/shipping orders or other documentation.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Performs quality control inspections.
• Sorts and packages parts as directed.
• Tags material for proper identification and complete all required documentation.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• Operates yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane for the purpose of loading and unloading trailers.
• Spot checks on inventory, completes daily and/or ad hoc checks for proper tagging of material, as directed.
• Reports any irregularities to supervisor for direction.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills

• Valid Driver's License - required.
• Must be able to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
• Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination - required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations - required.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly - required.
