Job summary

The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) seeks a CPS Floating Case Worker to support investigations and permanency planning across the CYFD region.

This role requires experience with child welfare, collaboration with community partners, and the ability to manage safety assessments, case plans, and rights to administrative reviews. The position involves travel and on-call duties as needed.

• Ability to determine eligibility for services.
• Ability to assess safety, risk, strengths, and family needs.
• Ability to develop safety plans.
• Experience participating in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Experience arranging timely assessments, evaluations, and interviews.
• Experience with medical case management for eligible clients.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and handle multiple offices.
• Ability to work independently with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Initiate CPS investigations according to the assigned priority.
• Assess safety and risk to children and families involved in referrals.
• Conduct investigations with safety assessment tools and interviews.
• Notify families of investigation decisions, dispositions, and rights to an administrative review.
• Provide quality practice in CPS investigations and protective services as per agency policies.
• On rotation, provide after-hours responses to CPS emergencies.
• Provide permanency-planning services for children to promote safety and well-being.
• Conduct ongoing safety, permanency, and well-being assessments.
• Complete required contacts, visits, documentation, court reports, and case plans.
• Travel for home visits, court appearances, and other case responsibilities as needed.
