Central Plains Steel is hiring a Press Brake Operator for a full-time, first-shift position in Wichita, KS. The role focuses on forming parts with two press brake machines, closely coordinating with laser, breakdown, and shipping teams to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery goals.

Qualifications

• 0–5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education
• Level 4 (Heavy Work) physical capacity required
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively
• Must obtain certification to operate motorized material handling equipment
• Basic computer proficiency and measurements skills
• Read and comprehend written instructions for work orders
• Stand for extended periods and work in varying temperatures
• Strong attention to safety and quality standards

Responsabilités

• Review blueprints and work orders to understand machining requirements
• Set up and operate press brake machines and fixtures
• Select speeds, feeds, and tooling per specifications
• Ensure correct material and dimensions per work orders
• Measure parts using calipers/micrometers for conformance
• Perform in-process and final quality checks

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for forming parts by bending them using one of our two press brake machines. They work closely with the laser operators, parts breakdown team, and the shipping department to meet or exceed goals for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery.

Job Function

• Review and follow blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications to understand machining characteristics of various metals.
• Determine processing specifications such as materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
• Ensure correct material for the job is used according to work orders.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Position work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and material onto machine.
• Select and monitor speeds, feeds, controls, and tooling.
• Determine operations sequence for various material and operating conditions.
• Create complicated or irregularly shaped parts or sections per established drawings, requiring careful blocking and clamping to avoid springing or distortion.
• Operates a variety of machines during processing as required based on workload or business needs.
• Measure and examine pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to ensure conformance to work order specifications.
• Perform “In Process” and “Finished Product” quality control inspections.
• Clean equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnose problems and makes necessary adjustments.
• Report any irregularities to supervisor for direction.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before or after processing.
• Move material from production areas to storage or other designated areas using forklift, side loader, or crane.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Skills

• Valid Driver’s License - required.
• Must be able to meet or exceed Level 4 (Heavy Work) of a Personal Capacity Profile.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
• Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination - required.
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations - required.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
