Job summary

City of Colonial Heights (Contract) is seeking a Certified Police Officer (Virginia certified or CPREP-eligible) to enforce laws, respond to emergencies, and conduct investigations. The role requires a strong commitment to public safety and a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Applicants must be US citizens, at least 21, physically fit, and able to pass the extensive police selection process including background checks, polygraph, and drug tests. Competitive benefits available for full-time staff.

Qualifications

• Virginia certified POLICE OFFICER or CPREP eligible.
• U.S. citizen per VA code requirements.
• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED; college coursework in criminal justice desirable but not required.
• At least 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Virginia operator's license.
• Physically fit as determined by a physician; 20/20 vision in each eye.
• Good character; no felony convictions or disqualifying offenses in VA.
• Able to pass all phases of the police selection process (written, agility, background, polygraph, psych, medical, drug).
• Ability to obtain required public safety certifications within time frame.

Responsibilities

• Enforces the law, investigations, traffic regulation and control.
• Provides emergency and other services.
• Responds to and investigates criminal activity.
• Performs patrol duties.
• Responds to calls for service.
• Serves warrants and assists in civil matters.
• Develops, distributes, and files reports.
• Operates electronic equipment for traffic enforcement.
• Testifies in court.
• Addresses public inquiries.
• Other duties as assigned.
