Job summary

Chesterfield County Police Department seeks a dedicated officer to respond to citizen calls, conduct investigations, and support field operations. The role requires a complete background review and CJIS-compliant procedures, with rigorous training and ongoing development.

Minimum qualifications include at least 18 years old, HS diploma or GED, and a valid Virginia driver’s license. Applicants must pass pre-employment drug testing and fitness evaluations, with equal opportunity employment

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required by Academy start date.
Experience in customer service or enforcement explorer/cadet program or equivalent education/experience.
Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with limited demerit points or DUI within past four years.

Responsibilities

Operate assigned department vehicle.
Respond to citizen calls for service; conduct victim and witness interviews; process evidence; prepare detailed police reports.
Interact with community members; assist stranded motorists; direct traffic for extended periods.
This position involves extensive background checks and security requirements; training and field experience opportunities are provided.
