Job summary

Milhaus is seeking a Payroll Director to lead our multi-state payroll operations across property management, development, construction, and corporate functions from our Indianapolis HQ. This role partners with Finance, HR, Accounting, Tax, and Internal Audit to ensure accuracy, compliance, and scalable payroll processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of progressive payroll experience across multi-state operations.
• Experience supporting organizations with 1,100+ employees across multiple states including CA.
• CPP certification strongly preferred.
• Experience leading payroll process improvements and system implementations.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight of multi-state payroll processing across all business divisions.
• Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and funding.
• Lead payroll tax administration, filings, deposits, and reconciliations.
• Manage internal controls and audits, including remediation of findings.
• Partner with HR, Accounting, IT and leadership on payroll initiatives.
• Drive automation and transformation of payroll processes.
