Job summary

Mercy is seeking a dedicated driver to operate a patient transport van, ensuring safe transfer of non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients in accordance with established guidelines. Responsibilities include daily van inspections, patient loading/unloading, and maintaining a clean, fueled vehicle.

Preferred candidates hold a High School Diploma or GED and have 1+ year of passenger-transport experience. Mercy emphasizes exceptional customer service and alignment with its mission and service

Responsibilities

• Operate Mercy patient transport van following established guidelines.
• Safely transfer non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients to and from the van.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and fuel levels; report defects promptly.

Job description

Operation of a Mercy patient transport van to include pick-up and delivery of patients consistent with established guidelines of practice. Responsible for the safe and proper transfer of non-ambulatory patients to and from the wheelchair, safe transport of patients via the wheelchair, ambulation assistance to and from the transport van for ambulatory patients, and proper and safe transport of both non-ambulatory and ambulatory patients via the transport van.

This position will be contingent upon maintaining a current and valid Class E or equivalent drivers license. Inspect the transport van daily and report any deficiencies to management promptly. Keep the van clean at all times; keep the vehicle sufficiently fueled. Performs related duties as assigned; provide exceptional customer service to all in keeping with Mercys mission, values and Service Standards.

Position Details

Licensure: For all states, a valid driver's license is required. This position will be contingent upon maintaining a current and valid E Class or equivalent driver's license for the states that require it.

Certification/Registration:

OTHER SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

• Competent with transfer and lift techniques and utilization of a gait belt for ambulatory patients
• Competent with disconnecting wall oxygen and transferring to portable oxygen with accurate liter setting for transport
• Competent with operating the wheelchair lift and securing system
• Good customer service skills
• Ability to communicate clearly by use of UHF radio with dispatch
• Ensure vehicle is kept clean and serviced appropriately
• Report all defects to manager

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help.

A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
