Job summary

Smith's Food and Drug is seeking a customer-focused team member to greet customers, assist at the checkout, and maintain a welcoming store environment. You will handle various tender types and follow POS procedures to ensure accurate transactions while adhering to safety and loss-prevention policies.

This role supports a fast-paced department and requires strong communication, basic math skills, and the ability to provide excellent service to diverse customers.

Qualifications

• Minimum: Customer service experience
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Effective communication skills
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction)

Responsibilities

• Greet, engage, and assist customers.
• Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
• Understand the POS system and handle tenders (Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, coupons) according to policy.
• Adhere to cash handling limits and loss prevention guidelines.
• Follow policies for restricted sale items (alcohol, tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to Scan Coordinator.
• Stay current with ads and promotions.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations.
• Support safety programs and report hazards.
• Inspect equipment and report repairs.
• Create welcoming environment and assist customers with product questions.
• Comply with laws and company guidelines.
• Work cooperatively in high-paced environments and manage conflicts professionally.
• Act with honesty and integrity about customer and business information.
• Be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
• Provide support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
