Job summary

Smith's Food & Drug Centers is seeking a Grocery Clerk to assist customers, stock, and maintain product quality in a fast-paced environment. You will help customers find items, communicate specials, and ensure freshness and safety across case temperatures and inventory.

Ideal candidates will have strong customer service, effective communication, and basic math skills, with the ability to work cooperatively in a busy store setting and to respond helpfully to questions about products.

Responsibilities

• Grocery Clerk helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
• Grocery Clerk informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review 'sell by' dates and take appropriate action.
• Grocery Clerk provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
