Job summary

Dallas County is seeking a PRN Sheriff Deputy for Court Services. This position enforces laws, protects life and property, and preserves the peace within the Court Services Division and nearby areas.

The schedule is flexible to cover division needs; a Certified Peace Officer in Iowa is required. Duties include operating security equipment, responding to calls, conducting preliminary investigations, making arrests, transporting offenders, and testifying when needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified Peace Officer in Iowa required.
• Must meet Iowa Law Enforcement Academy recertification requirements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to write routine reports and maintain records.
• Knowledge of Federal, State and County laws.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Operate security equipment in Court Services Division.
• Detect security issues with surveillance equipment.
• Prepare daily activity logs for contraband, baggage and entrants.
• Respond to calls and incidents, including emergencies, to aid citizens.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and gather evidence.
• Apprehend suspects and transport offenders; assist with court proceedings.
• Initiate charges and provide testimony as needed.
• Write detailed reports and daily logs.
• Pursue specialty assignments after training (e.g., field training officer).
