University of California, Davis is seeking a Content/Development Instructor to help design an online UC Davis CPE Professional Certificate in Virtual Design and Construction. You will develop curricula matrices and guide the program design in collaboration with Learning Experience Designers.
The role emphasizes industry credibility, trades experience, and ability to translate complex VDC concepts for career changers and early career learners. It is a part-time, exempt by-agreement appointment.
Under the general supervision of Instructor Services, the Content/Development Instructor will collaborate with UC Davis support team members to develop an online learning experience that will be delivered as the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education Professional Certificate in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). This is a “work for hire” assignment focused on creating the course product. The timeframe will be established as part of the planning for development and will be agreed to by all parties. The Development/Content Instructor will be the principal subject matter expert for this offering. The primary responsibility of the Development/Content Instructor will be to create the curricula matrix for the entire professional program and to review and provide guidance on the overall UC Davis CPE Proposal including the product types, courses, prerequisites, target market, and course design. The Development/Content Instructor must be highly credible with deep domain expertise. This position is a Development/Content Instructor only with the possibility of a Teaching Instructor position at a future date. This role is explicitly collaborative: program design decisions, learning architecture, assessment strategy in collaboration with a Learning Experience Designer (LxD), who is responsible for instructional quality, alignment with learning outcomes, and adherence to UC Davis instructional standards.
The target audience for this UC Davis CPE professional certificate in Virtual Design and Construction is field- experienced trade professionals (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, general contractors, CAD techs) and adjacent fields seeking to switch or skill up to VDC.
The CPE Instructor position is an exempt by-agreement appointment. The incumbent will be hired into the UC Davis payroll title of Teacher-University Extension Contract YR and will be subject to Federal and State Income Tax Withholdings.
Compensation will be a set amount assigned based on the nature of the work, such as course development, instructional services, or coaching sessions.
Position is not eligible for UC health & welfare benefits. As a by-agreement instructor, the employment is considered “part-time” and will participate in the Defined Contribution Plan (the “DC Plan”) as a Safe Harbor† participant. By-Agreement instructors are automatically enrolled in the DC Plan per their eligible appointment. Safe Harbor participants contribute 7.5% of their wages, on a pretax basis, in lieu of contributing to Social Security. Please review the Retirement Savings Program Information for Safe Harbor Participants and the DCP Summary Plan Description for more information.
