Job summary

Rockbridge County in Virginia seeks an experienced County Administrator to implement the Board of Supervisors' vision and oversee the county government’s programs and operations. The new Administrator will succeed a retiring leader who served 14 years, guiding day-to-day activities and coordinating departments, agencies, and offices under the board’s authority.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, political science, or related field; master’s preferred.
• At least five years of senior executive management experience as a chief or deputy chief administrative officer or department head.
• Comprehensive knowledge of public administration, local government financial management, and service delivery.
• Understanding of county government authority and the board/manager form of governance; Virginia experience is a plus.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development via ICMA and VLGMA; ICMA Credentialed Manager is a plus.
• Any combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Direct county government operations and supervise all departments, agencies, and offices.
• Develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets.
• Advise the Board of Supervisors and serve as Clerk to the Board; purchasing agent.
• Liaise with regional, state, and local agencies and community organizations.
