Job summary

Chapman University is seeking a Counselor/Therapist (10-Month Contract) to provide comprehensive mental health services to diverse university students within Student Psychological Counseling Services. The role includes assessment, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, triage, case management, and collaboration with campus partners.

The position requires evening hours (11 am–8 pm, at least three nights weekly) with telehealth for part of the schedule.

Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary

The Counselor/Therapist provides comprehensive mental health services to a diverse population of university students within Student Psychological Counseling Services ( SPCS ). Working under the general supervision of the Director of SPCS , the Counselor/Therapist provides assessment, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, triage and urgent care, case management, consultation, and referral services for students presenting with a broad range of mental health, developmental, academic, and social concerns. The Counselor/Therapist works collaboratively with counseling center colleagues, medical and psychiatric providers, and other campus partners to support student well-being and continuity of care. The position also contributes to outreach, prevention and educational programming, consultation with faculty and staff, and other initiatives designed to promote student mental health and strengthen the university community.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrated ability to provide assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively and provide culturally responsive services to diverse university populations.
• Ability to exercise sound independent clinical judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain timely and accurate clinical records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
• Ability to provide case management, coordinate care, and consult effectively with campus and community providers.
• Ability to develop and provide outreach, workshops, and psychoeducational programming.
• Knowledge of psychological assessment and testing consistent with professional training and scope of practice.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical teams, faculty, staff, administrators, and other university partners.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed or License eligible master’s level clinician or psychologist in California.
• Demonstrated ability to provide individual, conjoint, group and crisis counseling.
• Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy and maintain high level of confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Knowledge of psychological theory and testing, appropriate for a college population.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with diverse individuals in a university.
• Proven ability to operate calmly and effectively under stressful conditions.
• Skills in preparing and maintaining confidential records.
• Strong analytical skills to provide excellent psychological evaluations.
• Ability to learn and adhere to legal and ethical guidelines in records keeping.
• Ability to learn and interpret university policies and procedures.
• Ability to evaluate the progress of therapy and modify treatment when appropriate.
• Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems and departmental tools.
