Job summary

Phoenix House in Wainscott, NY seeks a Counselor to facilitate activities of daily living, group counseling and treatment plan implementation. You will deliver evidence-based counseling and psychosocial interventions to support recovery for residents.

The role requires CASAC and at least two years in behavioral health, with responsibilities spanning individual, group and family sessions, supervision of milieu staff, and maintaining case records in an indoor office setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) required.
  • Minimum two years in a behavioral health/substance use disorder treatment program.
  • Trained to dispense medications to clients in case of emergency.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual counseling and treatment/recovery plan preparation, monitoring and review.
  • Facilitates activities of daily living, community meetings, engagement, carrying out treatment planning in milieu.
  • Provide therapeutic interactions to foster patients social, cognitive and behavioral skill development.
  • Provide supervision of milieu staff.
  • Provide psychosocial interventions to teach skills for coping with urges, craving, impulsive behavior and cognitive distortions in thinking, motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Provide individual, group and family counseling.
  • Provide multi-family group counseling.
  • Plan and facilitate interactions with residents within the milieu to build social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
  • Assisting in supervision of activities related to establishing a treatment environment.
  • Prepare and maintain case records.
  • Assist in the medication room in case of emergency.

  • Salary range $27.80 - $30.67 hourly
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
License/Certification
  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) is required.
