Job summary

LA28 seeks a Counsel to translate ambitious plans into enforceable agreements ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. You will support the legal team on venue, construction and government deals, drafting and negotiating core contracts while managing risk across the organization.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape practical agreements, review major documents, and coordinate with outside counsel.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school; or 5 years of equivalent experience in corporate and transactional legal practice.
• Active license to practice law and good standing with the California State Bar, with the ability to practice in California.
• At least 5 years of transactional legal experience, with a thorough command of contract and corporate law.

• Support senior legal leaders on business transactions, from venue and construction agreements to deals with government and delivery partners.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including confidentiality agreements, memorandums of understanding, and real estate documents.
• Partner with teams across LA28 to anticipate, identify, and manage legal exposure and risk as the Games take shape.
• Review core corporate and stakeholder documents, including the Host City Contract, Olympic Charter, and Code of Ethics.
• Coordinate outside counsel on matters needing representation and keep the team current on evolving laws and regulations.

Role Purpose

As Counsel, you help LA28 translate ambitious plans into enforceable agreements in the years leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. You support the legal team on the transactions and partnerships that make the Games possible, from venue and construction deals to agreements with government and delivery partners. You will shape practical, well-drafted contracts where the playbook is still being written, collaborating across teams to manage risk and advance key decisions with visible impact in a demanding, high-trust environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support senior legal leaders on business transactions, from venue and construction agreements to deals with government and delivery partners.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including confidentiality agreements, memorandums of understanding, and real estate documents.

Required Competencies

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school; or 5 years of equivalent experience in corporate and transactional legal practice.
• Active license to practice law and good standing with the California State Bar, with the ability to practice in California.
• At least 5 years of transactional legal experience, with a thorough command of contract and corporate law.
• Excellent judgment and analytical skills, knowing when to upscale and how to prioritize issues and evaluate alternative solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to advise outside counsel, senior management, and business associates, with high integrity and confidentiality.

Valued Experience

• Prior law firm or in-house legal experience.
• Experience with construction, architecture, engineering, or real estate agreements.
• Exposure to sports, live-events, or public law matters.
• Familiarity with public contracting, lobbying, or gifting rules.
• Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.
• The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.
• The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.
• Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
• Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
• Manual dexterity: proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000- $155,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.
