Job summary

Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join the inpatient Physical Medicine team. Under supervision of an OT, you will assist with initial assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for patients of all ages, promoting function and independence.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Current license for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or eligible for licensure.
  • One year experience preferred; new graduates may be considered.
  • BLS certification required; certifications must be current.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with initial patient assessments and document care per policies.
  • Document progress notes and indicate ongoing need for treatment.
  • Administer modalities, exercise regimes, or treatments per policy.
  • Maintain progress notes and department records.
  • Promote education within the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific needs across neonatal to geriatric groups.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by the Inpatient PM Supervisor.

Overview

Under the general supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and according to standards of treatment, assists with objective assessments as well as comprehensive individualized treatment programs for patients of all age ranges, according to departmental policies and procedures. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercy's mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with initial assessment on each patient upon receiving direction from the O.T.R./L. and according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Document the course of patient care including progress notes and the continuing need for treatment according to departmental policy.
  • Administer appropriate modalities, exercise regimes, or treatment procedures according to departmental policies and procedures on standards of treatment care.
  • Maintain progress notes and departmental records on each patient according to departmental policies regarding documentation and charges.
  • Participate in promoting education within the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
  • Perform miscellaneous job duties as observed and directed by the Inpatient Physical Medicine Supervisor.

  • Certifications: BLS certified. Required certifications must be current before assigned to care for patients independently.
