Job summary

Honda is seeking a Cost Planning Engineer to determine cost competitiveness of part/system designs and drive cost reduction opportunities. The role requires deep understanding of cost drivers and collaboration with design, purchasing and supplier teams.

Onsite with optional remote day per week, travel domestically up to 5–10% annually. Requires a mechanical engineering background and 8+ years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• 8+ years of product development and design team leadership.
• Technical expertise in part materials and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to determine if a design is optimized for cost/investment.
• Proficient in CATIA, Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Generate accurate cost estimates from part characteristics and manufacturing processes.
• Consult with Design, Purchasing and Supplier on cost optimization.
• Identify areas to consolidate and bundle to improve sourcing cost structure.
• Verify reasonableness of cost targets and propose justified alternatives.
• Lead cost discussions at layout and drawing checks; summarize results for leadership events.
• Support discussions for parts cost/investment and provide business viewpoints for new technology.
