Job summary

Hormel Foods Corporation in Kansas (Wichita) seeks a cost accounting professional to manage day-to-day cost accounting functions, review production entries, analyze variances, and ensure accurate inventory records.

Key duties include cost and inventory reporting, general ledger activities including period close, journal entries, and collaboration across teams. Experience with Oracle Financials or similar systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day cost accounting functions including variance investigations.
• Review costing and inventory exception reports and maintain accurate inventories.
• Perform general ledger duties including period close and journal entries.
• Create and distribute accounting reports (yield reporting, write-offs).
• Handle AP tasks: researching and approving invoices related to receipts of raw materials, packaging, ingredients and services.

Job description

SUMMARY OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Responsible for managing the day-to-day Cost Accounting functions, including but not limited to:
  • Daily production entry review, analysis, and reconciliation (which includes investigating variances)
    • Includes managing in-tran locations and shipments to other plants and warehouses
  • Daily review of costing and inventory exception reports
    • Includes working with team members and applications to maintain accurate inventories
  • General Ledger
    • Includes reporting and explaining product losses
    • Inventory balancing/reconciliation, including period close
    • Creating journal entries as needed
  • Creating and distributing Accounting reports as necessary. i.e. yield reporting, product write-offs, etc.
• Responsible for AP tasks that include researching and approving invoices as they relate to receipts of raw materials, packages, ingredients, along with other recurring/annual type services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Prior accounting experience, preferably Cost Accounting
• Ability to think critically and logically
• Proven ability to work cross functionally to achieve desired outcomes, including working with management staff
• Demonstrated pattern of initiative
• Demonstrated excellent pattern of attendance reliability
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient with use of computers, including Microsoft Office (excel, email, etc)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience with Oracle Financials, or other AP related system
• Experience with QAD, or other related Cost Accounting system
• Experience with perpetual inventory systems
• Experience working in a food manufacturing or related environment
