Job summary

King & Prince Seafood in Brunswick, GA, seeks a Cost Accountant to manage plant-level cost structures, track material, labor, and overhead, and support inventory valuation and financial reporting.

You will partner with plant leadership to identify savings, maintain cost standards, perform standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, and assist audits while upholding internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • 3–4 years of cost accounting or operations finance experience.

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare pro forma and standard costs for new and existing products based on customer and company specifications.
  • Maintain and update standard cost components (raw materials, labor, overhead) in the ERP.
  • Analyze historical cost performance and recommend standard cost updates.
  • Perform detailed cost analyses and ad hoc reporting with variance explanations.
  • Review production work orders for accuracy and material variances; assist close.
  • Support monthly close with inventory reconciliations and related journal entries.
  • Prepare and distribute reports on manufacturing costs, inventory levels, and variances.
  • Maintain perpetual inventory records and assist with cycle counts.
  • Collaborate with plant operations, supply chain, and finance for costing and reporting.
  • Take on additional duties and special projects as needed.

Description

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, managing, and optimizing the cost structure of production operations at the plant level. This role focuses on tracking material, labor, and overhead costs and variances; maintaining accurate cost standards; and supporting inventory valuation and financial reporting. The Cost Accountant partners closely with plant leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve efficiency, and ensure strong cost controls. Key responsibilities typically include standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, margin analysis, and supporting audits, while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

Note: This an in-office role, 5 days/week, in our Corporate Office in Brunswick, GA.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare pro forma and standard costs for new and existing products based on customer and company specifications, in accordance with guidelines established by the Finance Manager – Operations and CFO.
  • Maintain and update standard cost components, including raw materials (seafood and dry goods), labor, and overhead. Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained for all standard cost changes and that changes are accurately reflected in the ERP system.
  • Analyze historical cost performance of new and existing products and make recommendations for standard cost updates or corrections.
  • Perform detailed cost analyses and ad hoc reporting to support management decision-making, including clear explanations of variances from standard.
  • Review and analyze production work orders for accuracy and material variances; coordinate corrections as needed and complete the work order close process in a timely manner.
  • Support monthly close activities for assigned facilities by preparing inventory and production reconciliations and assisting with related journal entries to ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost variance reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly reports related to manufacturing costs, inventory levels, and production variances for plant operations.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate perpetual inventory records and support compliance with cycle count policies and procedures in coordination with Operations and Supply Chain.
  • Collaborate closely with plant operations, supply chain, and finance teams to ensure accurate costing, reporting, and continuous process improvement.
  • Performs additional duties and supports special projects periodically based on organizational needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting
  • 3-4 years of experience in cost accounting or operations finance, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and standard costing methodologies
