Job summary

Judge Direct Placement seeks a Cost Accountant for a Brunswick, GA manufacturing operation. You will analyze manufacturing costs, maintain standard costing, evaluate inventory, and report variances to optimize margins and ensure accurate COGS.

Collaborating with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership, you will provide actionable financial insights to drive cost control and capital investments while upholding GAAP and inventory valuation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; 3+ years accounting experience, incl 2+ years manufacturing.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, standard costing, and inventory valuation.
• ERP manufacturing systems proficiency (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics 365) and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

• Costing & Variance Analysis: establish/update standard costs; analyze PPV, labor efficiency, material usage, overhead absorption.
• Inventory & Month-End Close: prepare GL entries for inventory, COGS, scrap, and reserves; reconcile sub-ledgers.
• Audit & Control: direct cycle counts and physical inventories; manage slow-moving/obsolete/excess inventory.
• Operational Collaboration: work with plant management on scrap, downtime, margins, and ROI on CapEx.

Job description

Manufacturing company in the Brunswick, GA area is seeking a skilled Cost Accountant who is responsible for analyzing manufacturing expenses, maintaining standard costing systems, evaluating inventory, and performing cost-variance reporting across production operations. Working closely with operations, supply chain, and plant leadership, this role provides actionable financial insights to optimize manufacturing margins, manage inventory risks, and ensure accurate Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reporting.

Responsibilities

• Costing & Variance Analysis: Establish and update standard costs (BOMs and routings); analyze monthly Purchase Price Variance (PPV), labor efficiency, material usage, and overhead absorption
• Inventory & Month-End Close: Prepare month-end GL journal entries for inventory, COGS, scrap, and reserves; reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger
• Audit & Control: Direct cycle counts and annual physical inventory counts; manage calculations for slow-moving, obsolete, and excess (SLOB) inventory
• Operational Collaboration: Partner with plant management to evaluate scrap, production downtime, product line margins, and ROI on proposed capital expenditures (CapEx)

Requirements

• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 3+ years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in a manufacturing environment
• Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GAAP, standard costing, and inventory valuation methods; proficiency with ERP manufacturing systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics 365) and advanced Excel
• Certifications (Preferred): CMA or CPA credential
