Job summary

Francis Tuttle Technology Center seeks a Cosmetology/Esthetics Substitute Instructor to supervise students in classrooms and salons in the absence of the licensed instructor. The role supports client services, safety, and quality while following curriculum and procedures.

The position emphasizes hands-on guidance, professional behavior, and effective communication with staff, students, clients, and industry partners. This is an on-site, as-needed role within the Francis Tuttle program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a current Oklahoma Master Instructor license applicable to Cosmetology or Esthetics as required by the State Board.
• Previous teaching experience desirable.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides hands-on guidance and technical assistance to students in Cosmetology/Esthetics.
• Supervises students while performing services on clients and ensures client safety and service quality.
• Demonstrates proper techniques, sanitation, infection control, safety practices, and professional standards.
• Assists students with consultations, service prep, procedures, client care, and completion of services within the licensed area.
• Maintains a safe, clean, organized learning environment and professional standards.
• Keeps accurate records of student attendance and documentation.

Job Title: Cosmetology/Esthetics Substitute Instructor

Reports Directly To: Instructional Director

Position Closing Date: Open until filled

Hourly Wage: $40/hr

Primary Function of Position: Responsible for providing classroom and salon supervision to students in the Cosmetology/Esthetics program. Effectively manages classroom and salon operations in the absence of the instructor.

Common Essential Job Functions

• Provides hands-on guidance and technical assistance to students practicing skills appropriate to their program area: Cosmetology, Esthetics.
• Supervises students while performing services on clients and assists students as needed to ensure client safety, service quality, and a professional experience.
• Demonstrates and reinforces proper techniques, procedures, sanitation, infection control, safety practices, and professional standards.
• Assists students with consultation, service preparation, technical procedures, client care, and completion of services within the substitute instructor's licensed area of expertise.
• Maintains a safe, clean, organized, and professional learning environment consistent with industry and program standards.
• Keeps accurate records of student attendance and other required documentation.
• Supports the daily operation of the student salon/spa, including maintaining appropriate client flow and assisting students in providing a positive client experience.
• Performs teaching duties with personal accountability and responsibility.
• Maintains professional accountability by being punctual and prepared according to the assigned substitute schedule.
• Maintains professional appearance and conduct appropriate to the beauty and wellness industry and Francis Tuttle expectations.
• Communicates effectively and professionally with staff, students, clients, industry partners, and members of the public.
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with students and clients.
• Follows lesson plans, curriculum expectations, and instructional directions provided by the program instructor when applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the campus director in accordance with school/state policies and practices.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a current Oklahoma Master Instructor license applicable to the instructional area in which the substitute will serve (i.e. Cosmetology, Esthetics) as required by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.
• Previous teaching experience desirable.
• Lecture and demonstrative skills.
• Reasoning ability and the ability to instruct.
• Ability to observe, recognize, and interpret.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft office components (MS Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work well with others.

Working Conditions Frequent walking and standing. Occasional sitting and stooping. Environment may be a salon environment and/or a classroom environment. Ability to lift 10-25 lbs. Concentrated visual effort is required. Extensive communication with internal customers. Reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. Organizational Relationship

Substitute non-certified, instructional personnel position reports directly to the Instructional Director.

Contract Details:

Substitute is non-contract, not full-time permanent or regular part-time employment. Substitute is on an as needed basis.
