Job summary

Clariant in New Providence, New Jersey, is seeking a Formulation Chemist to join the Lucas Meyer division of the Care Chemicals Business Unit. This laboratory-based role focuses on developing, customizing, and evaluating cosmetic formulations across skin care, hair care, sun care, and color cosmetics.

The position involves preparing prototypes, testing, stability studies, documentation, and collaboration with regional teams in an onsite facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3–7 years hands-on experience in a cosmetic or personal care formulation lab.
• Knowledge of cosmetics formulation principles: emulsions, gels, gel-creams, material functionality, stability testing.
• Strong documentation, organization, and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and formulation-related software; good communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Support development and customization of cosmetic formulations across skin, hair, sun, and color cosmetics.
• Prepare laboratory batches and prototypes for development and evaluation.
• Assist with evaluation of raw materials, functionality, processing parameters, and product performance.
• Conduct investigations, troubleshooting, and optimization with documentation of results.
• Initiate and monitor stability studies per procedures; track data and samples.
• Maintain formulation records, notebooks, stability data, and project documentation.
• Prepare prototypes, technical materials, and demonstrations for internal/external activities.
• Collaborate with formulation scientists and technical teams to meet project objectives.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory, materials, and consumables.
• Follow safety, quality, and regulatory requirements and support continuous improvement.
