Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; required.
• College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred.
• Arizona Department of Corrections experience strongly preferred.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience in a correctional setting required.
• Three (3) years of experience working in a correctional setting.
• Must be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees/inmates as well as staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
• Must have a valid, Arizona Drivers License.

Responsibilities

• Assists in development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees/inmates.
• Responds to major unusual occurrences; facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in case of injury or trauma.
• Promotes atmosphere conducive to development of detainees/inmates and staff; encourages positive behavior and proper facility use.
• Directs the work of other employees, including hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplinary actions.
• Makes assignments, reviews post orders and ensures emergency procedures are in place and staff are trained.
• Reviews disciplinary matters concerning staff and detainees; ensures compliance with policies.
• Reviews staff effectiveness and conducts inspections to ensure compliance with procedures.
• Gives primary guidance on situational problems; refers complex issues for higher-level support.
• Maintains daily logs and prepares records as assigned by management.
• Directs work, provides training and inspects detainee/inmate supervision as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
