Job summary

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a CSS-1 Shift Supervisor to supervise staff, ensure security precautions, and coordinate prisoner movement within the facility.

The position requires completion of 15 college credits and at least two years of related corrections experience, with at least one year at E9 level or equivalent; pre-appointment drug testing and felony/misdemeanor restrictions apply. Position includes emergency response duties, training, and timekeeping responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field.
• Two years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Officer or Corrections Medical Officer, including one year equivalent to the E9 level; or, one year equivalent to a Special Alternative Incarceration Officer 9.
• Positions in this class are test-designated and subject to pre-appointment and random-selection drug and alcohol testing.
• The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor staff in their duties, ensuring proper security precautions are followed and all prisoner movement is conducted properly.
• Assist the CSS-2 and CSS-3 with a variety of administrative duties encompassing the entire operation.
• Be available for response to any emergency situation within the facility and act as riot squad leader as needed.
• May be used in training, STG activities, phone monitoring and timekeeping.
