Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections – Corrections Services is seeking a key shift supervisor for Raymond Laborde Correctional Center in Cottonport, LA. This promotional opportunity is for current LA DOC employees with permanent status advancing within the department.

The role oversees dormitory operations, assigns posts, provides training, and counsels staff and offenders to maintain safety and security across the facility.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following.
• An applicant must have either a high school diploma/GED, or one year of experience in any field, or six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

Responsibilities

• Assigns daily posts and responsibilities to subordinate officers to ensure proper staffing levels and consistent security coverage throughout the facility.
• Provides on-the-job training and guidance to ensure officers understand their duties and performance expectations.
• Counsels staff and offenders on daily operational or behavioral issues, addressing concerns that may impact safety, security, or the overall functioning of the institution.
