Job summary

Raymond Laborde Correctional Center in Cottonport, LA, is offering a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees with permanent status to advance to an Assistant Shift Supervisor role. As an Assistant Shift Supervisor at Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC), the incumbent will support the oversight of daily operations within a facility that houses 1,908 adult male offenders spanning all custody levels, from minimum to maximum.

Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
• One year of experience in any field; OR
• Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties:

• Makes daily inspections of areas under his/ her supervision to ensure compliance with prevailing security policies and practices as well as to determine that all officers are properly performing their duties.
• Investigates unusual occurrences and may determine and appropriate course of action.
• Coordinates all personnel assignments for the Shift Supervisor to ensure proper coverage for each post. Counsels subordinate officers regarding any problems they may have. Conducts daily inspection of officers.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: DETAIL OF A permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

• An employee selected for detail may be permanently promoted to this position if a position becomes available.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $29.60 per hour.

There is ‘Premium Pay’ for this position: A rate between $.50an hour and $1.00an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
