Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction invites applications for the Correctional Sergeant I (S) at Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield, NC. This first-line supervisory role oversees Correctional Officer I staff, ensures custody and security of inmates, and enforces policies to maintain safety and compliance.

Salary range is $37,377 to $65,408. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications, pass background checks, and may face mandatory weather reporting.

Qualifications

• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements as per 12 NCAC 09G .0302.
• Pass a criminal background check and negative drug screening.
• Complete medical and psychological evaluations and possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Correctional Officer I in minimum-custody institutions.
• Oversee inmate safety, custody, and welfare and assign posts and duties.
• Ensure compliance with facility rules and procedures and prepare reports.
