Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of security staff in a medium/maximum security facility. You will oversee custody and control of inmates and ensure proper security of buildings and property.

You will conduct routine unit checks, ensure safety standards, assist with inmate counts, and arbitrate disputes between inmates and staff. Basic supervisory training is required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Supervisory experience in correctional, security, military, or police work considered.
• Must be certified by appropriate training academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and direct security staff in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Oversee security, custody and control of inmates.
• Ensure buildings and public property security; supervise inspections for safety and OSHA standards.
• Assist with inmate counts for accuracy and resolve complaints among inmates and staff.
