Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisor to oversee security personnel and inmate control within the unit. You will help prepare employee evaluations, conduct inspections, and provide training to staff.

Responsibilities include ensuring safety and OSHA standards, investigating misconduct, mediating at the lowest level, and assisting in counts with written reporting as needed.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for 1/2 of required experience (as stated).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the supervision of security personnel and control of inmates.
• Assist with employee evaluations, corrective actions, and counseling.
• Conduct unannounced inspections to ensure duties are performed correctly.
• Provide briefings and training for all security personnel.
• Ensure routine inspections meet safety and OSHA standards, and document findings.
• Investigate alleged misconduct.
• Mediates to resolve issues at the lowest level.
• Assist in counts and prepare written reports as required.
