Job summary

The Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Corrections Lieutenant at Indian Creek Correctional Center to manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers and inmates in an institutional setting. You will supervise staff on assigned shift to maintain a safe, secure, and productive environment.

Lead and counsel staff, coordinate schedules, participate in performance management, conduct inspections, and interact with management, visitors and the public to ensure orderly operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License.
• DCJS Certification.
• Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
• Experience supervising corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and duty roster management.
• Experience reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
• Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
• Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.
• LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience and/or training.
• Experience with evidence-based practices.
• Microsoft Office (Outlook) proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers and Inmates in an institutional setting.
• Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shift to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment.
• Lead and counsel staff; coordinate work schedules and duty rosters for assigned shift.
• Contribute to administration of performance management system for staff.
• Conduct ongoing inspections to maintain security, sanitation and good order of the institution.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
